You know those commercials where the clothes are hanging on the line blowing softly in the breeze? Then some doe eyed deliriously happy woman comes to collect them in her kitchen apron with her sweet little wicker basket? And the whole family is all smiles at night when they tuck into their comfy bed sheets? What you need to know about that is that it is a complete load of bullocks. How can they flutter when they have been turned into sandpaper like cardboard? It actually takes an entire day, sometimes two for your clothes to feel soft and relaxed again.
Everyone once in a while my folks ask us if we want them to send us anything specific that we need. My answer is always the same: A washer and dryer, please. We even suggested the stackable kind because it might be easier to package up for transatlantic postage travel. I’m certain they have taken me seriously and Daniel and I are patiently awaiting what we assume to be a long journey for our beloved clothes cleaning set. [It’s probably almost here, right, Ma?] Oh, to have a dryer again. Or a washer that you can put more than four items in if you actually want them to come out clean.
We just enjoyed our lunch outside, as is becoming our new habit, and went up to collect the bedding we washed three days ago. The other joy of hanging out your wet laundry is that chances are the line is hanging between trees. You know which part of the animal kingdom loves trees? Yes, birds. Do you know what birds do anywhere they like? Yes, poop. Alas, there was poop on our bedding. Instead of gambling on the washer not removing the excrement, Daniel washed it at the sink in our bedroom. We have also decided not to put it back outside for line drying.
If there’s an upside - I have to believe in upsides or I’ll go nuts - we did meet a new little puppy. His name is Wagtail and he’s tiny and cute. My favorite thing about him is how quiet he is. He never barks like all the other little dogs. And he squats down like the chickens when you attempt to pet him. Elaine, who takes care of the dogs for Pat introduced us to him. She also told us about a swimming pool that is nearby that she thinks we will enjoy. Daniel and I love to swim! She said they have food there and even a full bar. England really does love their brew. So we’re going to see about spending an afternoon there since we’re having really nice weather. Nice weather will always be an upside for me.
